LGB Alliance founder Allison Bailey loses lawsuit against Stonewall

Allison Bailey has won her employment tribunal case against Garden Court Chambers and lost her Stonewall lawsuit. The lesbian defence barrister, who co-founded the anti-trans hate group LGB Alliance, accused Garden Court Chambers of withholding work from her after she criticised the charity’s Diversity Champions scheme, which ensures that all LGBTQ+ people are free to be themselves in the workplace. Bailey, who describes herself as a “gender critical feminist”, said Stonewall’s views were “exclusive” and “discriminatory” of her beliefs and claimed the organisation ‘harassed, intimidated and threatened’ those who oppose…

Gay Liberation Front retrace original Pride march route on 50th anniversary

Veterans of the UK’s first Pride march celebrated the 50th anniversary by retracing the exact route that was walked in 1972. Well over a thousand people met at the steps of St Martins-in-the-Field church on Charing Cross Road before walking through Oxford Street to Hyde Park. Ted Brown, one of the organisers of the UK’s first official Gay Pride, told GAY TIMES he felt “a strong sense of achievement” as he marched once again in 2022. “We now have civil partnerships, we have gay marriage, we have legal protection, and…

Queen expected to confirm ‘conversion therapy’ ban in speech – but not for trans people

Queen Elizabeth II is expected to give an update on banning ‘conversion therapy’ during her annual speech at the state opening of parliament. Each year, the Queen gives a speech that sets out the programme of legislation expected to be pursued in the forthcoming parliamentary session by the government. Although exactly what she will announce remains unclear until the day, which bills are on the agenda is usually clear – as is the case with a ‘conversion therapy’ ban. “Measures will be brought forward to address racial and ethnic disparities…

BBC accused of “transphobic reporting” and Stonewall “smear” campaign in damning human rights report

A review into LGBTQ+ human rights has highlighted the “serious damage” caused by “anti-trans rhetoric” in the UK. ILGA-Europe, an independent European organisation advocating for LGBTQ+ people, published its Annual Review into the community’s rights on 15 February. The report examined events in Europe and Central Asia from January to December 2021 by looking at “legal, political and social developments in 54 countries and 4 European institutions”. Its analysis of the UK concluded that “anti-trans rhetoric” continued to grow in the country as the year progressed. “Civil society reports that…

UK equality watchdog suggests delaying trans conversion therapy ban in “deeply shocking” report

Activists are questioning whether or not the UK’s Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is “truly fit for purpose” after it suggested a “differentiated approach” to a trans conversion therapy ban. In a report published on 26 January in response to the UK government’s plans to legislate a conversion therapy ban, the human rights watchdog said the consultation does not “address the possible need to consider a differentiated approach in relation to sexual orientation and being transgender so as to ensure, in particular, that clinicians and therapists are not prohibited…

92% of parental control apps block sex ed and LGBTQ+ websites

LGBTQ+ and sex education sites were being wrongly blocked as “adult content” by more than 92% of parental control apps. Top10VPN conducted the research towards the end of 2021 by examining the top parental control apps available on the Google Play store. The aim of these apps is to protect minors from potentially harmful or explicit content by prohibiting access to it.
