Shadowhunters star Luke Baines comes out as part of the LGBTQ+ community: “Love is love”

Freeform

Shadowhunters star Luke Baines came out as part of the LGBTQ+ community in a heartfelt post.

With Pride Month in full swing, queer folk have come together and expressed their pride in their sexuality.

One of those individuals is Baines, who took to Instagram and gave his fans a new update on his life in a heartwarming post.

“I’ve been lucky enough to have been in love twice – the first with a woman, the second with a man. Label that however you like, but all I know is that… love is love. Happy Pride,” he wrote.

The post also featured two black and white photos that featured the phrases, “F*ck, I think I love you” and “You are perfect to me.”

Shortly after he uploaded his coming-out post, fans took to the comment section to shower Baines with support.

One fan commented: “Happy pride my love sending so much love to you! We got one more beautiful soul in our colourful community and I couldn’t be prouder.”

Another follower wrote: “This makes me so unbelievably happy. Welcome to the club. Proud of you, thank you for sharing with us all.”

Baines’ Shadowhunters co-stars also showcased their support for him and his coming-out announcement.

Sydney Meyer, who played Helen Blackthorn, wrote: “Happy Pride, you beautiful human! So very happy for you and proud of you. Lucky to know your beautiful heart.”

Alberto Rosende, who played the lovable vampire Simon Lewis, commented: “So happy for you buddy! Happy Pride!”

Dominic Sherwood, who played Jace Wayland, also shared a congratulatory message: “So proud of you, brother!! Happy Pride. Love you.”

During his time on the LGBTQ+ inclusive series, Baines played Jonathan Morgenstern, the villainous older brother of Clary Fray (Katherine McNamara).

Unfortunately, before the popular series could further explore his character, the Freeform network announced the show’s cancellation.

At the time, Karey Burke, EVP of Programming and Development at the network, said the decision was purely based on budget.

“We went back and forth with them but ultimately, we just couldn’t make the economics work,” she told Deadline in 2018.
