From royalty to pop royalty: London Gay Men’s Chorus present London Legends at Alexandra Palace

It’s been quite a season for the London Gay Men’s Chorus, who are taking their new show London Legends from one royal palace to another. Hot on the heels of a headline performance at Windsor Castle, where the Chorus sang for His Majesty King Charles III at a special celebration of community music, the UK’s biggest male chorus now heads from one palace to another: Alexandra Palace, to be precise. This time, it’s not about royal receptions – it’s about a full-blown pop spectacle. On Friday 9th and Saturday 10th…

They’re currently in rehearsals for a new concert, ‘Proud’, which will be performed at London’s Cadogan Hall on Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th June, the weekend before the city’s Pride celebrations. The London Gay Men’s Chorus (LGMC) – Europe’s largest LGBT+ choir, with more than 200 singing members – celebrated their 30th birthday last December, and have been marking this milestone with a year-long programme of celebrations. Following on from their ‘Big Birthday Bash!’ concerts at The Clapham Grand last winter and their ‘Sondheim Songtime’ shows in the spring – which starred West End royalty and Olivier-winner Jenna Russell as a special guest – the group is now bringing new concert ‘The Halloween Ball’ to an iconic North London venue, Alexandra Palace,…

Terrence Higgins Trust and London Gay Men’s Chorus rekindle historic partnership

It is incredible what people experiencing grief can achieve. Terrence Higgins Trust and London Gay Men’s Chorus – the organisations that we lead – are a testament to that. In 1982, Terry Higgins became the first-named person to die of an AIDS-related illness; his partner and friends formed Europe’s first HIV support organisation to respond to the unfolding pandemic. A decade later, a generation of gay men was decimated; nine community members met outside Angel tube station to sing Christmas carols to fund the Trust. Both groups created organisations beyond…

London Gay Men’s Chorus bring Sondheim tribute show Songtime to London stage

We last caught up with the London Gay Men’s Chorus as they were preparing for their Big Birthday Bash concerts at The Clapham Grand last December, to mark their 30th anniversary. The Chorus boys are continuing to celebrate their milestone birthday with a year-long programme of events, the next of which is rapidly approaching. On 29th and 30th April they will be staging tribute concerts to gay composer and Broadway legend Stephen Sondheim, who passed away at the end of last year. The shows – titled Sondheim Songtime – promise…
