Exclusive: 80% of LGBTQ+ people want the Gender Recognition Act reformed

Reforming the 2004 Gender Recognition Act (GRA) is ‘very important’ to a majority of LGBTQ+ people, a joint survey from GAY TIMES and Channel 4 News has found. The Act is what allows transgender people to change their legal gender by applying for a Gender Recognition Certificate (GRC). However, doing so is a lengthy and complicated process which includes the requirement for a diagnosis of gender dysphoria, as well as the need for a medical report detailing all treatment. In September 2020, the UK government published the results of a…

But when Iceland’s government made that choice possible a year ago, Proppe had second thoughts. While more than a dozen countries have introduced gender-neutral travel documents, some non-binary and transgender people are reluctant to use them because they fear facing discrimination or bureaucratic hurdles when travelling abroad. “I have yet to go and get my master’s degree and hopefully travel through the world, and that’s not something…

Drag Race star Aja asks fans for “help” with her “gender journey”

Aja shared an intimate post asking her followers for “some help” as she continues navigating her “gender journey”. In July 2018, Aja announced that she would rather be known as a “queer artist” as opposed to a “drag queen”. This led to her primarily focusing on her music career and less on the way a “stereotypical drag queen lip-syncs and performs”. On 6 September, the Drag Race icon took to Instagram to share an incredibly personal post about her “gender journey”. “Afterword I came out as non-binary and things started…

The 2022 BRIT Awards will not feature gendered categories for the first time to celebrate “artists solely for their music and work”.
