Exam results of non-binary students could be recorded for first time in UK

Exam results in the UK could soon be broken down into boys, girls and non-binary students, it has been confirmed. The Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) stated that it is exploring the possibility for future results. The membership organisation published this year’s GCSE grades, which then uses the data to compare the performance of boys and girls – the two categories results are currently divided into. However, a spokesperson for the JCQ told The Independent that it is “looking at” whether or not this should be how results are categorised…

Guatemala ditches plans to ban same-sex marriage after president threatens to veto law

Guatemala’s Congress has ditched plans to ban same-sex marriage and the teaching that “anything other than heterosexuality is normal” in schools. It comes after fierce backlash to the Protection of Life and Family law being passed by 160 votes in favour to just eight votes against on 8 March. To come into effect, Alejandro Giammattei, Guatemala’s president and a conservative, had to give it his signature – though he stunned supporters of the legislation when he threatened to veto it. President Giammattei stated that the law was a violation of…

Hungary’s parliament paves the way for government to hold anti-LGBTQ+ referendum

Hungary’s parliament has passed a resolution that will pave the way for the government to hold a referendum on LGBTQ+ issues. As Prime Minister Viktor Orbán enters a tough election race in 2022, the move will raise his anti-LGBTQ+ campaign to a heightened level. Earlier this year, he proposed that the country hold a referendum that could limit how schools teach homosexuality and transgender issues. “The Hungarian government proposes that citizens should have a chance to express their stance on the issues of gender propaganda,” deputy minister Balazs Orban told…

Kenny Ethan Jones: “I’m not going to waste my time with people that don’t fully accept me”

Kenny Ethan Jones believes it is “powerful” when LGBTQ+ people do not try to gain acceptance from those who reject them. During an appearance on Just Like Us’ new podcast series, Growing up LGBT+, Jones detailed what growing up trans in the UK was like for him. “Teachers weren’t very supportive, they just didn’t really understand it,” the activist shares. “I don‘t think it’s that they were necessarily transphobic to any degree, it’s just that they didn’t get it and they didn’t get how to support me or what I…
