Gay sex convictions under now-abolished laws to be wiped by UK govt

Priti Patel is set to announce a pardons scheme expansion covering any conviction given to those engaging in consensual homosexual activity. The Home Secretary is reportedly planning to broaden the government’s Disregards and Pardons scheme, meaning that those who were convicted of a crime under the now-abolished legislation can apply to have it wiped from their criminal record with no requirement to disclose it in the future. The Home Office said that the nine former offences currently included on the specified list “largely focused on the repealed offences of buggery…

On August 12, a group of United Nation human experts condemned an anti-LGBTQ+ bill and appealed to Ghana’s government to repeal the proposed legislation. The Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill was condemned by Victor Madrigal-Borloz, the independent U.N. expert on LGBTQ issues, and 11 of his colleagues. The controversial bill, which has already been introduced in the Ghanaian Parliament,  states that “any person who deviates from an…

Hungary calls out Lewis Hamilton for his support of the LGBTQ+ community

A Hungarian government official has called Lewis Hamilton’s solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community “fake news.”  Earlier this week, the British racing driver took to his Instagram to condemn Hungary’s archaic anti-LGBTQ+ law.  “To all in this beautiful country Hungary. Ahead of the Grand Prix this weekend, I want to share my support for those affected by the government anti-LGBTQ+ law,” he said.  “It is unacceptable, cowardly and misguiding for those in power [to suggest] such a law. Everyone deserves to have the freedom to be themselves no matter who they…
