“I look forward to the opportunity and privilege to continue to tell inclusive and meaningful stories that shine a positive light out there.”
Dan Levy will develop and produce scripted projects as part of a multi-year overall deal at ABC Studios.
Jonnie Davis, president of ABC Studios, said in a statement: “Dan Levy has proven himself as one of the most creative people in the TV business. His writing, acting and producing skills will be a tremendous asset to ABC Studios.
Davis continued: “We couldn’t be more excited to be in business with him.”
Levy is best known for creating the critically-acclaimed comedy series Schitt’s Creek alongside his father Eugene Levy.
The show stars Dan, Eugene, Catherine O’Hara and Annie Murphy as the Rose family, wealthy and snobby socialites who lose their fortune and have to take refuge in a town they bought as a joke, Schitt’s Creek.
Earlier this year, it was finally recognised at the Primetime Emmy Awards, with nominations for Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series (Eugene Levy) and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series (O’Hara).
The sixth and final season will premiere 7 January 2020 on Pop TV.
“I’m thrilled to be partnering with ABC Studios in this exciting next chapter,” Levy said of his partnership with ABC.
“As I say a bittersweet goodbye to ‘Schitt’s Creek,’ I look forward to the opportunity and privilege to continue to tell inclusive and meaningful stories that shine a positive light out there.”
Since its premiere in 2015, Schitt’s Creek has received universal acclaim from critics and has been lauded for its portrayal of LGBTQ characters, especially for Dan’s character David, who identifies as pansexual.
All five seasons of the show are now available to stream on UK Netflix.
